Adoption
Ready, Set, Adopt
Adoptions make us purr, but cats, like all companion animals, are a serious commitment. If you’re ready to make the leap, here’s information on our process along with tips to set you up for success.
- Your first step should be research. Seek information from trusted sources on things like general cat ownership, helping a cat adjust to a new home, and if applicable, introductions to other pets.
- If you’re up to the rewarding task of cat ownership, make sure everyone in your household is on board and you have your landlord’s permission (if applicable). Purchase the basic supplies and prepare your home for your new family member.
- Now the fun part, go meet cats! We don’t have a shelter facility, so our kitties are either in foster homes or one of our adoption partners. See the locations here.
- You can also view our adoptable cats on Petfinder. If the cats are at an adoption center, you can visit and adopt them there. If in a foster home, shoot us an email via the Petfinder link and we’ll put you in touch with the foster.
- Once you’ve fallen in love and are ready to adopt, our adoption center partners or foster parents will walk you through the paperwork (application and contract).
- The adoption fee is $150 and covers the standard vetting every NCR cat receives: spay/neuter, vaccinations, combo testing, and deworming.
After Adoption
While many cats and kittens will make themselves right at home, it may take a few days for your new companion to adjust. It’s possible the significant change could lead to behavior and medical concerns. Here are a few things to watch for.
Any animal adopted from NCR must have follow-up vet care. We recommend scheduling a vet visit within two weeks after adoption. Your adoption paperwork will include up-to-date health records for your new pet. Please keep track of these records and share with your vet, as we don’t keep duplicate files.
We’ll follow up in a few weeks to see how things are going with your new family member. But in the meantime, we’d love to hear from you! Tag us in your Instagram photos or send updates to nashvillecatrescue@gmail.com.
